Tony Cragg: Seeing Things
Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, texas (2011-2012)
Organised by Holtermann Fine Art, this exhibition is the first solo museum show of Tony Cragg since 1990. Featuring 30 large and medium-scale works as well as a selection of the artist's drawings, the exhibition surveys Cragg's sculptural practice over the last twenty years. The distinctive architecture of the Nasher Sculpture Center and its garden offer a remarkable setting in which viewers can understand Cragg's oeuvre.
During that span, Cragg has developed a unique practice that investigates the boundaries of materials and form. He came to prominence in the 1970s for works composed of brightly coloured found objects, but since the 1980s he has worked extensively with bronze, wood, stainless steel and stone, and developed an extraordinary formal language which is rooted in the artist's deep interest in science, philosophy and the human figure.
